Daytrippers was created collaboratively between artists Lindsay Perth and Catriona Grant and young people from Fairbridge Edinburgh and Corstorphine Youth Centre. Between April and June 2002 the young people were introduced to new media. Through collaboration and experimentation they utilised these technologies to express their creative ideas. The work in the exhibition was developed in response to artist Sugimoto’s seascapes. In contrast to the abstraction of his unpopulated images the participants chose to explore the human aspects of the seaside. The visual material was sourced locally from North Berwick and Portobello in Scotland. The first phase, ‘Noctivigation’ provided training to youth workers, and this second phase, ‘Daytrippers' provided follow up support to enable the youth workers to develop new media projects with the young people they work with. The work resulting from this project was shown during the 2002 festival at Stills.
