Noctivigation’ is a digital art project, developed collaboratively between Stills and YouthLink Scotland.
The project's aim was to encourage and support youth workers to work creatively with new media. It was delivered in two parts; this first part giving training to youth workers, and the second part, ‘Daytrippers' provided follow up support to enable the youth workers to develop projects with the young people they worked with.
The training workshops were led by the digital artist Lindsay Perth with the support of the artist Billy McCall and took their theme from the ‘Infraliminal’ exhibition at Stills. Digital video cameras were used to record nocturnal activity in selected spots around the city.
The recorded footage was taken back to the digital lab in Stills (Richard Hough Resource) where participants used design applications to turn the footage into printed images that depict the ebb and flow of activity.
The project allowed participants to create a piece of work using new media as the capture and production tools for a final work which was printed, mounted and exhibited. It also demonstrated creative ways to use industry standard applications, such as Photoshop, for future ideas and projects, and showed how the different tools in new media work together.
